This is something different I decided to do for the living section’s centerpiece story that day, rather than just posting the images as a photo gallery. Instead, the visitor to this popup gets a front page allowing him or her to choose which rooms to view by clicking on their locations on an architectural elevation. The implementation is via a client-side image map, with a DHTML trick to make showing the red overlay not require a duplicate copy (or duplicates of certain slices) of the underlying JPEG image. This saves 20-30K of image file size.
